Application for DPSM

2nd Class love science!

Here are some of the science experiments we did in room 9. We experimented with sound vibrations. We used elastic bands and put them around containers. when we plucked the elastic bands we could see the sound vibrations!

We also looked at materials and change and what happens when we mix corn flour and water. Finally, one of our favourite experiments was making butter. We shook cream in containers until it turned to butter. We discovered that when we added a marble to the container it made the butter quicker. We even tasted the butter- it was yummy!IMG_2460 IMG_2457 IMG_2455 IMG_2458 IMG_2454 IMG_2451 IMG_2461 IMG_2463 IMG_1711 IMG_1712 IMG_1714 IMG_1716 IMG_1713 IMG_1718 IMG_1719 IMG_1720 IMG_1722 IMG_2839 IMG_2836 IMG_2840

6th Class Primary Science at the RDS

Miss Griffin’s 6th class had an amazing day at the Primary Science Fair in the RDS on Friday. They did amazingly well answering all the questions that the public asked them, and did their school proud. Our class would like to thank everyone that made the day possible, including parents that came with us and helped out on the day, parents that helped by talking about the experiment and research at home, parents who helped to send emails, and anyone who popped in to see us and offered us words of encouragement and support. We’d also like to thank Mr Vance for coming in to see us in the RDS, and to all the teachers and students who took part in our experiment or helped in any way.

Please find a selection of photos from the day below (there are at least 3 past pupils from St Kevin’s, as well as a few other famous faces!!), but if you would like to find out more about our project and see all of the photos from when we began planning our project right through to Friday’s presentation, please go to https://perceptionofsightandtaste.wordpress.com/photo-gallery

6th Class Primary Science is ready to go!

After months of preparation, including weeks of research, 6 experiments, 40 participants from 1st class, 3rd class, 6th class and teachers, 3 minor heart attacks caused by Mircosoft Word bar charts and pie charts, 6 litres of smoothies and 7 litres of ice cream, we’re finally ready to present our research in the RDS tomorrow.

If you would love to know what we did, but can’t make it to the RDS, everything you could want to know about the sense of sight and taste in humans and animals, our experiments, results, and photos of us from every stage along the way, check out our website (created and run by members of our class) by clicking the image below!

6th class science projects

Mr. O’Neill’s 6th class recently produced their projects on topics ranging from matter, forces and electricity to technology and the frontiers of science. They also did some very interesting experiments which showed off their keen interest in and understanding of many different scientific principles. We had electrical circuits, chemical changes, electromagnets and even holograms. 20171121_12203620171121_13164920171122_12013820171122_12211920171123_12212820171124_10261020171124_11441620171124_12031620171124_12125720171124_13173220171124_13265420171208_130810IMG-20171130-WA0000

6th Class begin their Primary Science Project

Which animals have night vision?
Does your gender affect your vision?
What colours do dogs see?

This is only a 3 of our mind boggling questions just
waiting to be answered. Like what about “which can see
further, a mammal or an insect?” or “Does age affect
your vision?”

With all the answered and much more, at the official
ROOM 17’s amazing Primary Science website!
Coming to you and all soon! Don’t miss it!
