Well done to the athletes who represented us at the Wicklow Invitational Cross Country relays. There were over 30 schools in attendance and the children conducted themselves commendably as ever. They were great sportsmen and women but also tough and resilient when they needed to be. Every team had a top 10 finish which is remarkable in such a huge field. Special congratulations to our gold medal winners – 4th class boys, 5th and 6th class girls, silver medal winners – 3rd class girls and bronze medal winners 5th and 6th class boys. Special thanks to Fiona, Orla, Rebecca and Jane who helped out and to Mr. Flynn and Ms. Lambkin who organised.
St. Kevin’s has once more swept the boards at the Wicklow Cross Country Relays in Avondale today. We had some really strong, impressive laps by all runners. We had a tally of 7 gold and 2 bronze team medals. Thank you to the parents Pauline, Louise, Alan and Sandra for accompanying us. Well done to all the children for their support as much as their success. Well done to the parents for all the time you put in to helping your children develop. Athlete of the tournament goes to Keela Keogh for holding on to her first place position under serious pressure!
On Tuesday, forty eight of our 5th and 6th class students took part in a 3 kilometre trail run around Avondale House. It was a very successful day with all students completing the difficult course. Well done to all the participants for representing the school so well.
A big thank you to Mr. O’Neill and Ms. Lambkin for organising the St. Kevin’s team and to Mr. McNeice and the two parents who came along to help. A great day was had by all!
(Ms. Lambkin ran the course twice with all the students to make sure everything was going smoothly… next year she should definitely get a medal…)
Third and Fourth class children ran a gruelling 800m, with a wicked hill at both the start and finish. Fifth and Sixth had an added 200m loop to bring their race to 1km. The first four children from each school got points for their finishing position. These were used to score the team competition. Lowest score wins.
As ever, the children were a credit to the St. Kevin’s uniform/tracksuit! They each ran gutsy races and no one was seen walking, despite the very tough, hill finish. Our athletes were gracious and modest in victory. As you can see from the photo there was a massive turn out, with over 100 in each race. Medals were hard won and yet we swept the board. Well done to the dedicated parents who cart their children to athletics or sports training in all weathers. Well done too to the talented and determined young athletes of St Kevin’s who represented the school so admirably.
