The snow didn’t stop the ‘running’ of the inaugural indoor athletics event which had been scheduled for Feb 28th. 21 athletes traveled to Abbottstown on March 12th to compete in hurdles, sprints, 600m, relays, shot put, long jump and high jump. We were up against mostly Dublin schools and came out the better of them in many events. The girls finished second overall school after the 7 events. Lucy Daly, Lucy Willoughby and Daniel Connerty brought home gold medals. Tara Casey bagged a silver in the high jump with a PB of 1m 30cm and Mike O’ Neill a bronze with an amazing throw of 9m 9 cm! Emily O’ Reilly, Sarah Hayes, Jessica Earls and Emilie Watchorn got a bronze in the relay. Sophia Keogh made it the 60m final. Thank you to Alan and Vickie and Sinéad who helped out.
Mr O’Sullivan’s 2nd Class and Ms Griffin’s 6th class teamed up to hear the story “Enemy Pie” by Derek Munson.
We then drew our favourite parts of the story.
Well done to the 4th class girls who took part in the blitz today in Bray Emmet’s. They played four matches and won all of them – although it was the taking part that mattered! The way they played and behaved was a credit to the school. Thanks to Anna’s mum and dad, to Hannah’s grandparents and to Zara’s mum for coming along to support.
We raised an amazing €1,257.31 bag packing in Super Valu over the last 3 days which was fantastic. Many thanks to Justine Ryan from The Parents’ Association for organising , to the parents and students who helped out and also to everyone who put money in the buckets!
